Description/Details:
This sculpture is made of a sand and cement mix around a hollow form in the shape of an arch. Medium in size, a light sandy colour, with a rough grainy textured finish and a small hole in one side. Each work is hand made, individual in its shape, size and detailing.

The ‘Arch’ is inspired by a large interactive artwork titled ‘The Space In-between’, (I, Buck 2016) which investigated notions of transit, and devices that facilitate transitional spaces. The artwork took shape in the form of a life-size archway, constructed of sand and cement around a hollow form. Then upon caster wheels to allow an element of interactive mobility for the viewer, who could move the work around the space as desired, whilst also being able to walk through its arched shape. "An intersection that opens one space to another space, understood through embodied systems of ‘passing through’. Through the notion of interaction and mobility, the structure is a materialised method of understating the power of place, with prominence to sensation" (2016). The CUSCH ‘Arch’ presents a miniature iteration of this artwork.

The ‘Arch’ requires a little care of the corners when moving. Due to the desired textural finish, it may lose grain crumbs when bumped. If residue falls upon the artwork, gently clean using a dry soft brush.
